The Source blog. Get your home fixes Solved on Screen – live
Our latest Solved on Screen YouTube Live took place on Friday 11th December at 1pm.
We’ve all had to find new ways to keep busy at home this year. Since March we’ve baked enough sourdough to create the biggest shortage of flour in peacetime and we’ve attended morning PE with Joe Wicks in such numbers that he’s made it into the Guinness Book of World Records.
Now new British Gas research1 reveals that when we weren’t baking or doing burpees, most of us were fixing up our homes – and 48% of British homeowners and renters used online tutorials to help finish their jobs.
So for anyone in need of advice or guidance on home maintenance, you can watch our latest Solved on Screen Live.
My home is my castle
We’re a nation well-known for its ‘my home is my castle’ attitude and perhaps we’ve never taken more pride in our homes than now. With extended periods at home for many of us, homeowners and renters have been turning their hands to fixing up their properties – though 75% don’t believe that they’ve mastered home maintenance skills. And worryingly, one in fourteen households say that they’re heading into winter with unfinished home repairs.
In normal times, many of us would come to rely on an expert tradesman to get us out of hot water – but this winter, in the face of the ongoing pandemic, almost half of British households (48%) understandably feel uncomfortable about inviting an expert into their home to help.
