How to submit opening and closing meter readings

Opening meter readings

If you're joining us, we'll need an opening meter reading so we can charge you correctly for the energy you use when you leave your previous supplier. You can submit your opening meter reading online. You’ll need to enter your email address, account number and postcode.

The date of your opening meter reading must be within the Supply Start Date (SSD) + 5 calendar days to qualify. You can find the SSD on your welcome letter.

Closing meter readings

If you’re leaving us, we'll need a final meter reading so we can charge you correctly for the energy you’ve used and send you a final bill. You can submit your final meter reading online. You'll need to enter your email address, account number and postcode.

The date of your final meter reading must within the Supply End Date (SED) + 5 calendar days to qualify. Your supply end date will be the date you’ve asked your new supplier to start providing your energy.

I'm struggling to read my meter

Reading your meter

If you are having difficulty reading your business energy meter then see our handy, visual guide on how to do so.

Accessing your meter

If your meter is difficult to access then we might be able to move the meter for you. Our Connections and Metering team can help.

Another solution is to get a smart meter fitted for your business. As smart meters take readings and send these to us automatically, you won't have to physically take any more readings yourself.

I submitted a meter reading and got a message saying it's not what was expected

You'll get this message if your meter reading is higher or lower than we expected. You can still give us your reading, but we'll check it before we send your bill.
